Edgar Rice Burroughs , the fourteenth in his series of books about the title characterTarzan . The novel was originally serialized in the magazine Blue Book from October, 1930 through April, 1931 as "Tarzan, Guard of the Jungle."The novel comes of the heels of what many consider the "peak" of the series, but re-visiting Opar is a breath of fresh air. Formulaic as its predecessors are, it's still genuine escapist adventure-reading. Tarzan's pet monkey friend, Nkima, adds flavor to the story, which ERB did well to incorporate--and not a book too soon!
