- Battle of Gennis
The Battle of Gennis in Sudan (then often called upper Egypt) was fought on
30 December 1885 . The British forces were led by Major General Evelyn Wood. It was little more than a skirmish, with few casualties on either side.It is notable as the last time that British soldiers fought in scarlet tunics. Thereafter, the army used less visible uniforms.
