Longlowong Regional Eisteddfod

The Longlowong Regional Eisteddfod is an annual cultural festival in Longlowong, New South Wales, Australia.

It was established by local school teacher Beatrice Digby soon after she moved to the area in 1927. Beatrice considered the performing arts to be a vital component in childhood development. Since the inaugural Eisteddfod the event has been held annually at The Digby Theatre with the enthusiastic support of the Longlowong community.

The event was marred by tragedy in 1965 with the accidental death of long-time Eisteddfod supporter Dr. Theodore Fields. Ironically, in his last will and testimony Dr Fields left a large sum of money to the Eisteddfod Foundation, thus ensuring its future.

Entrants are able to compete in various sections including dance, speech, instrumental and vocal.

Although the Longlowong Regional Eisteddfod creed is “Practice, Participate, Perform”, the prestigious Dr. Fields memorial trophy (awarded to the winner of the open vocal solo section) continues to be a much sought after prize. This trophy has been won by contestant Morris Popolovski for the last seven years, which has generated some controversy amongst competitors and parents alike.
