Luc Courchesne

Luc Courchesne (born 1952 in St-Leonard d'Aston, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian artist who works in the field of interactive art. Since the early eighties he has spent his time researching interactivity, and campaigning for the inclusion of multimedia exhibits in museums. He has created artworks with light, photography, film and video. In recent years he has concentrated on the representation of portraits and the coherence of mimicry, gesture and language. When creating his installations, he always takes into consideration the audience that will view the artwork.

He studied Design in Communication at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax (Bachelor 1974), and Visual Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge (Master 1984).Since 1986, he has been a professor in industrial design at the Université de Montréal. In 2005 he became director of the école de design at the Université de Montréal

In 1997 he won the Gran Pix of the ICC Bienale in Tokyo. In 1999 he was awarded a Distinction, in Interactive Art, in the Prix Ars Electronica for "Landscape One".

He currently is living and working in Montreal.
