West Jefferson High School is a public high school in West Jefferson, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Jefferson Local School District. Their nickname is the Roughriders.

West Jefferson High School is in the Mid-State league-Cardinal Division. West Jefferson is D5 in Football. They also have Soccer (men's D3 and women's D2), Volleyball (D3), Golf (D2), Tennis, Wrestling (D3), Basketball (m/w) both D3, Track, Baseball, and softball. The Roughriders have many victories in all of their sports especially baseball, football, volleyball, and wrestling (having at least 3 state finalist every year.
Their main color is Brown and Gold
The Football Team:Holds the state record for most consecutive winning seasons of 42 spanning from 1960 through 2001. STATE PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIPS: 1976, 1982,STATE POLL CHAMPIONSHIPS: 1962, 1977, 1982.... One of the best coaches they had was Gene Keel.Coach Gene Keel is a former Head Football Coach at West Jefferson compiling a record of 157-40-7, having won 13 league and 3 State Championships. He was Ohio U.P.I. Coach of the Year in 1964 and 1976. Coach Keel is a member of the class of 1984 Ohio High School Coaches Hall of Fame, and a member of the 1964 and 2007 National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.....
In 2006 & 2007 they went to the 3rd round of the playoffs and lost both times but went 12-1 both seasons compiling a 24-2 record over heir last two seasons... they have not lost a regular season game since week 8 in 2005. They have won back to back MSL Cardinal League titles and went undefeated tha past two season. This is the first time a team has had back to back undefeated season in school history.
