[http://www.vikas.org.in Vikash Educational Charitable Trust] is an India based not for profit Non Governmental Organisation working to support the education of sharp but financially underprivileged children in the state of Orissa.

Mission

"The students with superior abilities contribute towards growth , prosperity of the society through superior achievement in science , technology and humanities. It is the mission of the trust to ensure that no such talent goes waste and also to provide enabling infrastructure facilities in form of financial assistance, monitoring, guidance and encouragement."

Objectives

In pursuance of the mission adopted the trust has adopted the following realizable objectives.

# To help selected government high schools with resources, manpower, equipment and administrative assistance to transform them from nondescript schools to model schools.
# To locate aspiring and bright students from rural areas and poor homes , who are unable to study for want of finance , parental guidance and ignorance.
# To locate benevolent donors for such needy students and channelise their assistance directly to the students to enable them pursue higher and technical education.
# To locate other institutional donor organizations who are helping students, like F.F.E., Jindal, N.S.F. etc and channelizing their efforts to benefit the students of Orissa.
# To locate first generation students and those from Dalit who are academically week to come to the level of general students and be socially and economically useful by organizing remedial classes.
# To foster competitive spirit among rural students by conducting competition in subjects like , essay writing , debating , general knowledge , painting , quizzes etc.

The Board of Vikash Educational Charitable Trust consists of professionals from various fields who meet periodically to decide future plans and programmes. It has its offices at Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar and Nanpur with professional administrative back up. It has a large number of dedicated volunteers attached to its above offices. In addition, it gives infrastructure support and coordinates among the 65 facilitators of Foundation For Excellence, USA, a number of members of North South Foundation, Chicago, U.S.A., and Jindal Charitable Trust etc. who are spread all over Orissa. A large number of individual patrons, presently 40, are also pitching in with their financial contributions.

History

As a responsible citizen, every successful person of this society should have his aim or at least think of returning some benefits what he was enjoying from the society.

With this idea in mind, the Trust started working to locate the rural poor and deserving students who could not continue their education due to poverty and ignorance. This is an organisation run by volunteers who are sincere and well established professionals and who are interested to see that every bit of donations reach the needy and brilliant students, without which, they would have perished in the darkness of the society. With the blessing of the Almighty, this bold and noble ambition to pull out our excellent intellects from the rural area to flourish and go hand in hand with the main stream of nation building is the motto of this organization.

The supporting hands that strengthen the trust are all successful and well-settled professionals with ample of dedication to uplift their society. They are all volunteers from different parts of Orissa working in a chain with full enthusiasm and interest.

Under the guidance of these people, this charitable trust started its work:

* To develop and foster excellence in the field of education by organizing and encouraging competitions among different high schools of the area in the fields including English essay, English literature, Oriya essay and literature, general knowledge and debating. It encourages the poor meritorious students of the area for pursuing their higher studies in colleges. It also has taken up assisting one primary school by providing additional teacher, study materials, sports equipment and uniforms. Presently, the trust is increasing its area of competitions to more high schools in addition to existing seven participating high schools.
* The trust has adopted three Government High schools by signing an MOU with Director, Secondary Education, Orissa under "School Adoption Program" for assisting in specific works.
* It has undertaken introduction of regular information Technology Courses (Computer Education) in the said schools with the help of M/s APTECH placing its own computers in the schools and Aptech Selected Professional Faculty. This scheme has been approved by the Govt. of Orissa. However, the Govt. will not bear any cost of the project.
* It has been mobilizing local persons and funds from M.P.L.A.D. funds for construction works in the 3 schools.
* It has been locating bright and needy students from the rural areas and arranging to give them financial assistance for higher studies.
* It has located individual patrons for these bright students. In addition, Institutional donors like Foundation for Excellence, Santa Clara, U.S.A., North South Foundation, Chicago, U.S.A., Jindal Charitable Trust, Tumkur Road, Bangalore are helping large number of such students.
