"Thrinax baumgartneri" is an extinct species of shark. It was classified based on two relatively complete teeth and two isolated crowns. Due to the limited material available and its similarities to "Chlamydoselachus fiedleri", it has been suggested that the criteria with which "T. baumgartneri" is separated from "Chlamydoselachus fiedleri" are within the normal variation of "Chlamydoselachus". [cite journal | auotes=no |last = Richter | first = Martha | coauthors = David J. Ward | title = Fish remains from the Santa Marta Formation (Late Cretaceous) of James Ross Island Antarctica | journal = Antarctic Science | volume = 2 | issue = 01 | pages = 67–76 | publisher = Cambridge University Press | date = March 1990 | url = http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayFulltext?type=1&fid=222834&jid=&volumeId=&issueId=&aid=222833 | doi = 10.1017/S0954102090000074 ] This would therefore make "T. baumgartneri" a junior synonym to "Chlamydoselachus fiedleri" and, since there is only one identified species within genus "Thrinax", the whole genus a junior synonym to "Chlamydoselachus".
