William Francis Murphy (born
May 11 ,1885 inKalamazoo ,Michigan ) was the firstRoman Catholic bishop of theRoman Catholic Diocese of Saginaw inSaginaw ,Michigan . He was ordained for theArchdiocese of Detroit onJune 13 ,1908 atSt. John Lateran inRome . He was consecrated asbishop of the newly-foundedDiocese of Saginaw by order from PopePius XI . His episcopal motto was "Agenda ademple" meaning "To fulfill one's duties." He died onFebruary 7 ,1950 aged 64.Education

After his ordination as a priest, Murphy was assigned to be associate pastor at St. Thomas Church in
