Anglophone Cameroonian

Anglophone Cameroonian

Anglophone Cameroonians are the people of various cultural backgrounds who hail from the English-speaking provinces of Cameroon (Northwest and Southwest provinces). These territories were formerly British part of the League of Nations mandate and United Nations Trust Territories.

The two English-speaking provinces of Cameroon make up 15% of a population of 16 million approx (2006 Est.)

On the political front, Anglophones seem are the avant-garde of Cameroon politics. Anglophones in Cameroon are sometimes misunderstood or looked upon with suspicion. The Social Democratic Front, the largest opposition political party in Cameroon's parliament, is headed by an Anglophone. A secessionist movement, Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) (the only secessionist movement in Cameroon), also clamours for the independence of the two English-speaking provinces.
