WXJK is an Active Rock formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Farmville, Virginia, serving the Farmville/Crewe/Dillwyn/Cumberland area. WXJK is owned and operated by David W. Layne.

History

The station signed on in 1991 as a religious station with emphasis on music and teaching. The owner abruptly yanked the format in August 1992 for a classic rock/oldies format as "WXJK 101.3". As the years went by, the station added deeper cuts of music (many of which are live recordings) and added some modern rock to the playlist, becoming "101.3 FM the X"

In November, 2004, the station's tower fell in a small tornado, causing the station to broadcast from an antenna on top of the studios. After insurance and red tape from the FCC were cleared, the station signed back on from a tower about 50 feet shorter than its predecessor. The station was, however, able to regain most of its former coverage area back.

Music

The station broadcasts a wide variety of rock from the 60s to today, with a strong emphasis on the 70s and 80s. The station's active playlist includes over 2,000 songs.
