Carson High offers 8 Small Learning Communities (SLCs) to its students. It is mandatory that each student be enrolled in one of these smaller education communities. As of Fall 2008, each SLC has its own building on campus.

Programs

Marching Band

Carson High's Marching Band is led by Band Director, Mr. Pittman. The Marching Band is dedicated to playing at Carson High's football games, pep rallies and parades. At the moment, the band consists of 30 students.

Academic Decathlon

Carson High's Academic Decathlon is coached by English Department Chair and ASA Head Teacher, Dr. Schuetze-Coburn. Academic Decathlon allows 9 students to participate in scholarly competition against other high schools in the greater Los Angeles area. The team consists of 3 Honors (A students), 3 Scholastic (B Students) and 3 Varsity (C students) as well as team researchers. Students are tested in 10 subjects: Art, Language & Literature, Music, Economy, Math, Science, Speech, Interview, Essay, and Super Quiz.

Journalism

Carson High's "The Trailblazer" is a student run newspaper sponsored by Dr. Gregory Vieira. The newspaper is released monthly.

Athletics
