After an argument with her sweetheart Bill Fadden (
Randolph Scott ), Ruth Brock (Nancy Carroll ) spends the day and a good portion of the night with the rich small town playboy Romer Sheffield (Cary Grant ), followed by disastrous results for her reputation. The small town hypocrisy causes her to lose her job, and even her fiancé doesn't believe in her innocence.In the end Ruth realizes that Romer is her true love.
