Providing adult comtemporary music and classic hits, with chat, competitions, local, national and international news and sport including local weather. Tay AM also broadcasts a country-music themed show on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, a jazz and blues show on Fridays and also Scottish Country music on Saturday early-evenings. Radio Tay commenced broadcasting on the 17th October 1980 in Dundee and 14th November 1980 in Perth from the studios it still broadcasts from today at 6 North Isla Street in Dundee, near the city's Tannadice & Dens Park football stadia. The original schedule only broadcast from 6am-8pm daily.
On 9th January 1995 the station split its services/frequencies to become Tay AM and Tay FM. Both stations now also broadcast on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting – i.e. Digital Radio) and over the internet via their respective websites.
Tay AM broadcasts on 1161 AM in Dundee and 1584 AM in Perth, and is more "golden oldie" than its sister station Tay FM, playing more classic hits from the past few decades, along with some of the more easy listening of modern day offerings.
Former presenters include Kenny Page, Sheena Wellington, Ian Duncan, Dave Bussey, Norma Gamble, Pat Kelly, Scott Davie, Pete Maddison, Carl Greenwood and Grant Reid.

Tay News currently employs multiple broadcasting journalists at present with Alan Smith as Head of News. News Bulletins are broadcasted on the hour weekdays 6am-7pm, 10pm-2am and the news headlines at 7:30 & 8:30am and 4:30pm & 5:30pm. Saturdays 6am to 6pm then 10pm-2am. Sundays 6am-2pm and then further bulletins at 4pm, 7pm, 10pm-2am. Sport bulletins are presented daily during Breakfast, Lunch and Drivetime. Radio Tay Newsroom is currently staffed by 4 Broadcast Journalists. Alan Smith as Head of News and Gavin Butler is the Sports Editor.
