One of the first purchasers in the development was actor John Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston. The runway length allows Travolta, an avid pilot, to operate his Boeing 707 jet. The jet caused controversy at Travolta's previous fly-in residence at Spruce Creek near Daytona Beach, Florida. However due to the poor condition of the runway the jet is based in Ocala International Airport.Fact|date=September 2008 Travolta's 707 was only kept at Ocala airport for a few months until engineering studies refuted the runway condition reports and the 707 was brought back to Jumbolair.

As of January 2007, litigation prevented all property owners in the subdivision from accessing the runway with their aircraft. The access issue was resolved when Jumbolair purchased the adjacent land and remaining airport rights.

In January 2008 five teens died after the 2008 BMW M5 they were driving flew off an convert|85|ft|m|sing=on embankment into a tree at the end of runway.
