Scorpio (film)

"Scorpio" is a 1973 spy film directed by Michael Winner. It is about a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent, agent Cross (Burt Lancaster) who is suspected of treason. To have him eliminated, the CIA sends Jean Laurier (Alain Delon) alias "Scorpio", a French assassin, to kill him. In a failed break-in, CIA agents shoot and kill Scorpio's wife, played by Joanne Linville, during a search of her home. Scorpio, who is a friend of colleague of Cross, is threatened with jail on a false narcotics charge if he doesn't cooperate. Cross is very successful at evading capture but is eventually assasinated by Scorpio. Moments later, Scorpio is assassinated. The viewer is left to speculate who is behind Scorpio's death. The CIA? The Russians?

Amazingly, a scene of the espionage thriller was filmed at the Watergate Hotel during the day of the break-in that brought about the cover-up which eventually brought down the Nixon presidency.
