- Top Station
Top Station is a one of the attractive tourist places in the
Theni district ofTamilnadu ,South India which is situated on the border ofTheni district andIdukki district ofKerala (located at coord|10|08|N|77|17|E|type:mountains). Its elevation of convert|1700|m|ft|0 is the highest point on theMunnar -Kodaikanal road and the highest roadway elevation inSouth India . Top Station offers a panoramic view of the majesticWestern Ghats and the valley ofTheni district . This area is popular for the rareNeelakurinji flowers. TheKurinjimala Sanctuary is nearby. Tea was transported down from here by railway andropeway to Munnar and beyond. Top Station is the western entrance to the plannedPalani Hills National Park . Top Station derived its name from its location on the Kundala Valley 24 inch gauge railway. Middle Station (
Kundalai ) is 12 km from Top Station on the way to Lower StationMunnar . Some remains of Kundala Valley Railway can be seen at the Munnar Tea Museum. Middle Station and Lower Station, were also once connected to this place via ropeway. Remains of the Ropeway Station at Top Station are still visible. There was also another ropeway from Top Station down hill to the east toBodinayikkanur , Tamilnadu. Top Station is 32 km from Munnar. Ernakulam railway station is about 162 km from Top Station and Cochin International Airport is about 142 km from Top Station. Frequent public buses operate between Munnar and Top Station. No overnight lodging is available.
