- Aaron Goldstein
Aaron Goldstein (born 1972) is a Canadian-born author and political commentator who, although a longtime member of the
New Democratic Party ofCanada (NDP), changed his party affiliation to the Republican Party in theUnited States following the terrorist attack on theWorld Trade Center in 2001. On account of his American-born father, Goldstein holds dual citizenship.Goldstein grew up in
Thunder Bay, Ontario where he began his involvement with the local NDP association, and served as the press officer of theRegional Multicultural Youth Council . In this capacity, he lobbied the Ontario provincial government in support ofaffirmative action . He moved to Ottawa where he earned his degree atCarlton University , and worked for a number of NDP members of parliament. This included a position as the youth organiser of Alexa McDonough's successful bid for the federal NDP leadership in 1995. Goldstein also worked in the office ofJimmy Wray , a UK Labour MP, during a work and study stint in England. While working in Ottawa, Goldstein authored the book "The Ugly Duckling's Waffle ", a history of the NDP Youth that includes a forward by Canadian historianDesmond Morton .Goldstein moved to Boston in 2000 where he initially supported both Democratic and Green candidates for office. After becoming a Republican in 2001, his focus changed primarily from campaign involvement to writing in support of conservatism.
