October 23 , 1951 in Moberly, Missouri. She is a professor of nursing atTruman State University and a mental health nursing consultant. She has taught at Truman for over 30 years, after graduating from the former Northeast Missouri, now Truman, with herBachelor of Science in Nursing in 1975. She went on to earn herMaster's degree in Nursing from theUniversity of Missouri–Columbia in 1982 and then Doctoral Candidacy at theUniversity of Kansas . During the 94th General Assembly regular session, McClanahan sponsored House Bill 627, which "requires the installation of carbon monoxide detection devices in certain residential properties."
