November 6 ,1991 inWoodland, California ) is aMexican/Nicaraguan football player, currently playing forAcc Mavericks . Perez has become U15's topgoalkeeper in recent years with a regular place in theBerkeley Varsity Team , "The Jackets". District 4 ODP Team, 2005-2006 State Pool.Career
Perez's first moment of glory was playing for the Berkeley Varsity Soccer Team as a freshman. Perez made his club debut with
Astro Brightes at the age of 5 in 1996. A year after his debut, he moved to the San Pablo Neighbors, but sat on the bench most of the time. In the fall of 1998, Perez was transferred toSan Pablo Dolphins , one of the most successful clubs in ACCYSL. He sat on the bench most of his career with them under Evelio Perez who coached the team then and since went on to coach the Acc Mavericks-Cougars. Perez's seasons with Dolphins was a failure, as he sat on the bench most of the time. After his seasons with the Dolphins, Perez was traded to the San Pablo Cougars now Acc Mavericks-Cougars. Here Evelio was a starter and was one of the top players on the team. Then the turning point of his career occurred. The Cougars goalkeeper was transferred from the other team, and left the Cougars keeperless. This faced Coach Evelio Perez, Evelio's father to make one of the decisions that would change Evelio's life forever. Evelio was moved from playing forward/midfielder to goalkeeper. This is the position Evelio had always loved, but never had to chance to prove himself. Now Perez had the chance, and he ran with it. Getting the experience Perez needed, he went to try out for the District 4 ODP Team. And to his surprise, he made the cut. After 4 long months of training with the ODP Team, Perez had become a totally different player. He went from sitting on the bench to become the difference maker on the Cougars. Then Perez started his high school career in the fall/winter of 2005/06. Not feeling confident at all, Perez went to try out at for the lowest skilled team in Berkeley High, the Freshman team. This team was mostly composed of freshmen who can't play JV. After two days of try-outs, the Freshman coach advised Perez to try out for the JV team. With this boost of confidence, Perez easily earned the starting position on JV. Then a few games later, the varsity goalkeepers for different reasons were not allowed to participate in the team. With this, the varsity team turned to the new up and coming keeper, Evelio Perez. "I had never felt so happy in my life, after hearing that I was starting on the Berkeley High Varsity team." After battling nerves, his first game was against Encinal which Berkeley won 4-3. But having a shutout, because all the goals were scored on the back-up keeper. Perez's next game was the biggest game of the season. It was a clash between rivals Richmond High and Berkeley High. There had been historic games between each other. Perez handled it like an experienced keeper, having six saves in the game including on off the line. Berkeley lost 2-1. Perez continued the season strong, but Berkeley failed to qualify for the North Coast Section Playoff (NCS).
