"Placostylus ambagiosus priscus" was a subspecies of very large, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Bulimulidae, the bulimulus snails and their allies.

This subspecies has been extinct for approximately 2,000 years.

Distribution

This land snail was endemic to Cape Maria van Diemen in Northland in the North Island of New Zealand.

hell description

The shell is tall and narrow with a narrowly oval aperture, having all apertural processes, apart from the parietal tubercle, heavily callused. Shells have been radio-carbon dated to 2140 +-90 years old.

The shell height is up to 81 mm, and width up to 33 mm.
