Grigoriy Grumm-Grjimailo, a geographer and the zoologist, researcher of W. China, Pamir, Tian-Shan (1884-90), W.Mongolia and Tuva, Far East (1903-14). discovered Turfan oasis. G.Grumm-Grjimaylo authored works on physical, political, historical geography and ethnography of the C. Asia, its entomology.
