Brian Coyle

Brian J. Coyle (25 June, 1944-23 August, 1991) was an American community leader and gay activist. He was born in Great Falls, Montana, raised in Moorhead, Minnesota and studied at the University of Minnesota. Coyle was a member of Students for a Democratic Society and a writer for the Minnesota Daily. He originated the Free University, directed the National Campaign to Impeach Nixon, and founded the Progressive Roundtable. Coyle served three terms on the Minneapolis City Council where he concentrated on housing, human rights, the environment and transportation and served as council vice president.cite web

] He told the public he was HIV-positive in the year of his death. Ford House is a memorial to Coyle. A Minneapolis community center, a neighborhood garden and a Human Rights Campaign leadership award carry his name. On Monday September 22nd 2008, Ahmed Nur Ali, a Somali-American student of Augsburg College was shot and killed volunteering for the Brian Coyle community.
