"Placostylus bollonsi arbutus" is a subspecies of very large, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Bulimulidae, the bulimulus snails and their allies.

This subspecies is endangered.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to the Three Kings Islands of New Zealand.

Habitat

This land snail is found at an altitude of about 700 ft in forest, mainly under the canopy of rangiora.

hell description

The shell is probably the largest for the genus, with a tall narrow spire, 2.5 times the height of the aperture. The shell height is up to 113 mm, and width up to 42 mm.

Conservation status

"Placostylus bollonsi arbutus" is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being "Nationally Endangered".
