Forestview High School is a public high school in the Gaston County Schools school district located in Gastonia, North Carolina.

History

Forestview was formed and founded via an effort by Gaston County Schools to ease overcrowding at Hunter Huss High School and Ashbrook High School. The school's mission is stated as follows: In partnership with the community, Forestview High School provides quality teaching and support to empower each student for a successful lifetime of learning and citizenship.

According to the Forestview High School's tenth edition of the Jagged Edge Yearbook on Monday, April 24, 1995 by the Gaston County Schools' Board to Education chose the name for Gastonia's newest high school. The school opened it's doors in August 1998 without a senior class. The first ever graduating class was in 2000. 80% percent of Forestview graduates go on to attend universities and in the 2007-2008 school year Forestview set a county record with $4.2 million in scholarships. Since the school's first class there has been 2,683 total graduates.

Gastonia native Chuc Clubb came up with the name of Forestview. Clubb is an active member of the Republican party, actor, and a member of the board of directors for the Little Theater of Gastonia. He also designed the flag for the City of Gastonia, and holds the distinction of proposing the name of the Charlotte Bobcats a National Basketball Association team. Clubb came up with the name Forestview in 1994 while walking around the newly purchased land site for the new school.

Forestview's first and only Principal, Robert Carpenter, was selected to serve in 1996, and served as the school's first employee along with Diane Hall the school's financial administrator, who also still serves in that position. Carpenter is known for his phrase "Have a very nice rest of the day" which he delivers after afternoon announcements.

The current assistant principals at the school are Kristie Bogle, Robert Frost, Lucretia Rice, and Phyllis Whitworth. Brad Evans is its business manager.

Athletics

Forestview would play their first football season away from their campus using East Gaston High School, South Point High School, and Ashbrook High as home facilities. Their first ever home game was play at East Gaston's Arrowhead Stadium versus Bessemer City.

With vast community support the Parent Teacher Organization was able to raise in assess of $1.6 million to build athletic facilities. Included in the Dan Gunter Athletic Facilities are the Alala Stadium, baseball stadium, tennis courts, softball and soccer facilities.

Foresview is currently a member of the Big South Conference and in the 3A classification by the North Carolina Athletic Association (NCHSAA). Forestview's athletic director is Alan Stewart.
