Pickerington High School Central is a public high school in Pickerington, Ohio. It is one of two high schools in the Pickerington Local Schools district. Their nickname is the Tigers. Prior to the opening of Pickerington High School North, it was known simply as "Pickerington High School". Pickerington High School was known as Violet Township High School from 1906- 1939. Before that time there were many schools in the Pickerington/Violet Twnshp area, including "The Pickerington School" (c.1883) a two-story, tworoom school that was built to replace the original building.

Pickerington High School Central has one of the best varsity football teams in the state of Ohio. Since 2003, the Tiger Football Team has been to playoffs 5 out of 6 years. In 2007, PHSC reentered Division 1 and had the first perfect regular-season record. In 2006, PHSC had a 13-2 season becoming Division 2 State Runner-ups.

Football Rivalries

The Battle of 256: Pickerington High School and Reynoldsburg High School has one of the longest continuing rivalries in Central Ohio. The schools have met every year (in football) since the 1970's. In 2005, sponsored by the local Wal-Mart, the Reynoldsburg/Pickerington game became known as the "Battle of 256", as Pickerington and Reynoldsburg are the largest cityies to sit on OH-256. A large metal Football Shaped trophy is awarded to the winning school each year. Reynoldsburg High School has not beaten Pickerington High School since 1998.

Pickerington High School/Lancaster High SchoolThe annual game between Pickerington and Lancaster High Schools are sometimes referred to as the "Fight for Fairfield County". This game is between the two largest cities and schools in Fairfield County. Pickerington defeated Lancaster for the first time in ten years in the 2007 season. During this season PHSC beat Lancaster twice, once during the regular season and once during the first playoff game of '07.

PHSC vs. PHSNPHSN opened for the 2003-04 school year. In 2008, Central and North faced off in Football for the first time at Crew Stadium. Nike sponsored a trophy to comemorate this historic rivalry. The Purple and Black trophy supports a Victory Bell. The inaguaral bell was awarded to Pickerington High School Central for their 38-7 victory over Pickerington High School North. It was reported that nearly 15,000 people attended the game.

The Pickerington High School Central Marching Tiger Band has been one of the most active and successful bands in the Midwest since 1986. The group consists of approximately 210 students (as of 2008). Pickerington High School Central consists of grades nine through twelve and houses approximately 1,350 students.

The band has competed in the Ohio Music Education Association's State Marching Band Competition for 26 of the past 27 years, earning the state's highest honor, a Superior rating, for 19 consecutive years. (as of 2007)

The Tiger band has marched in over 15 nationally televised parades, including three appearances in the Rose Parade and three appearances Macy's Parade. The band has performed for three Presidents and performed 16 NFL haltime shows.

During the 2002 school year, the Pickerington High School Marching Tiger Band had approximately 307 members. When PHSC Tiger Band and PHSN Panther Band combined for the final time in 2006, for the 117th Tournament of Roses Parade, the band had over 380 members. Both bands continue to grow.
