- Earl of Carhampton
The title of Earl of Carhampton was created in the
Peerage of Ireland in1785 , but became extinct upon the death of the 3rd Earl in1829 . The earls bore the subsidiary titles of "Viscount Carhampton" (1781 ) and "Baron Irnham" (1768 ), both in the Peerage of Ireland. In 1829 George IV offered to revive the earldom in favour of Sir Simeon Henry Stuart, 5th Baronet (seeStuart Baronets ), son of Sir Simeon Stuart, 4th Baronet , and his wife Lady Frances Maria, daughter of the third Earl. However, the offer was declined. The Lutrells arrived in England in 1066, with
William the Conqueror 's army at theBattle of Hastings , acquiring estates as reward for services to the Crown. The Lutrells were descended from Sir Geoffrey de Luterel of
Irnham ,Lincolnshire , who served King John inIreland and who was granted lands nearDublin where he established the village ofLuttrellstown .The three main branches of the family were Luttrell of Irnham,
