Malmö Tower Malmö tower.PNG General information Town or city Malmö Country Sweden Construction started 2008 (planned) Completed August 2010 (planned) Design and construction Client City of Malmö Architect C. F. Møller Architects Malmö Tower was a proposed skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden, designed by Danish architect Lone Wiggers of C.F. Møller Architects. The design was revealed at a press conference held by Malmö Municipality on August 21, 2006. The design was chosen by a jury in an international competition, featuring amongst others, renowned Austrian architects Coop Himmelb(l)au.
If built, the skyscraper would have reached a height of 216 metres, covering 53 storeys, making it the highest building in Scandinavia and exceeding Santiago Calatrava's famous Turning Torso building, also located in the city of Malmö. The tower was to have been the centrepiece of a proposed complex featuring 50,000 m² of apartments, offices, shopping space, leisure activities and a train station.
The building will not be built, instead it will be replaced by four smaller towers. The two highest towers will have a height of 95m and 49m and the project name is Point Hyllie.
Design
The proposed design was a cubical tower, clad in light varied glass surfaces and natural stones, selected to complement the Nordic light. Among the details projected for the tower were a sky-bar on the top floor, hanging gardens on three different levels, an indoor tropical garden, and a colonnade with cafés and shops along the base of the building.
