conurbation has a population of 461,181 (2001 census), making it the 12th largestconurbation in theUnited Kingdom andEngland 's 10th largest. Named the Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation by theOffice for National Statistics , the area has also been known as "Greater Brighton". The conurbation dominates West andEast Sussex , with around 1 in 3 of Sussex's population living within its boundaries. It is also the largest conurbation in the South East region ofEngland and the largest conurbation on theEnglish Channel coast, in eitherEngland orFrance . It is also the largest conurbation inEngland outside ofLondon not to be represented in theEnglish Core Cities Group .The Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation is also the UK's most densely populated major conurbation outside of
London with 4901.5 people per km².
