Stranger Pond is a water quality control pond on the northwest side of Bonython, a suburb of Tuggeranong, the southern district of Canberra. Stranger Pond was formed by a man-made dam across a natural drainage channel.

Geography

Stranger Pond is bordered by Bonython to its east, south, and soon-to-be north as there is development of new houses that are being constructed. To the west of Stranger Pond is the Murrumbidgee River, a major tributary of the Murray River.

Wildlife

Stranger Pond is now home to much wildlife. Pelicans and swans can be found in and around the pond and kangaroos and even wombats have been spotted.

Drought

As you can see in the image to the left, the water has receded quite a lot in the past few months due to the drought. This is a major problem for much of the dams in Canberra.
