concept car during the 2006North American International Auto Show inDetroit . Kia has announced it would produce the Soul in late 2008 as a 2009 model. It will replace the Kia Spectra5hatchback as Kia's compact 5-door inNorth America .The vehicle was designed at Kia's design center in
California . The Soul will be produced inSouth Korea for the global market. Kia announced in July 2008 that the Soul would begin production late in 2008, with the first vehicles appearing at European dealerships in February 2009 and with tentative plans to begin U.S. delivery in April 2009.
