Erawan ( _th. เอราวัณ) is a district ("Amphoe") in the eastern part of Loei Province, northeastern Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) Pha Khao, Wang Saphung, Mueang Loei and Na Duang of Loei Province, and Na Wang and Si Bun Rueang of Nongbua Lamphu Province.

The main river in the district is the Suai.

History

Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts [cite news|url=http://www.manager.co.th/Politics/ViewNews.aspx?NewsID=9500000055625|publisher=Manager Online|title=แถลงผลการประชุม ครม. ประจำวันที่ 15 พ.ค. 2550|language=Thai] . The district slogan is "Erawan, large elephant. Area of sweet Longan. Tradition of 100,000 rockets. Land of silk production.

Administration

The district is subdivided into 4 subdistricts ("tambon"), which are further subdivided into 45 villages ("muban"). Erawan and Pha In Plaeng are also subdistrict municipalities ("thesaban tambon"), and 2 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO) for the remaining two subdistricts.
