Sir Frederic Robert St John KCMG (
2 March 1831 –27 February 1923 ) was a British diplomat.The son of Hon. Ferdinand St John and Selina Charlotte Keatinge, and grandson of the 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke, he entered the diplomatic service in 1855. From 1879 to 1881, St John was Secretary at the British Embassy at
Constantinople . Having beenMinister Resident toCentral America in 1881, he became it toColombia in 1884. Between 1884 and 1888, he was further Minister Resident toVenezuela . St John was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Serbia from 1888 and 1890 and Consul-General to Serbia from 1890 to 1892. Between 1893 and 1901, he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Switzerland, after which he was made a Knight Commander of theOrder of St Michael and St George .On
18 April 1882 , he married Isabella Annie FitzMaurice, daughter of Captain Hon. James Terence FitzMaurice, son of the 5th Earl of Orkney. They had six children, three sons and three daughters. The present Earl of Orkney (b. 1938) is the grandson of this marriage.References
