Salem High School (Ohio)

Salem High School is a public high school in Salem, Ohio.

It is the only high school in the Salem City School district; after the closing of Salem Middle School (formerly known as Salem Junior High School) in 2006, the High School went from housing grades 9-12, to housing grades 7-12.

The building currently serves 787 students and 52 teachers.

Dr. Joseph Shivers is principal of the High School; the principal of the Junior High School is Mr. Sean Kirkland.

Athletics

Salem High School's athletic teams are known as the Quakers, and the school mascot is Quaker Sam. The high school has won Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships in the following sports:
* Boys Basketball, in 1960;
* Boys Cross Country, in 1930, 1931, 1993, 2004, and 2005;
* Girls Cross Country, in 2005, 2006.

College Football Hall of Fame inductee Earle Bruce had his first head coaching position (at any level) at Salem. Bruce led the Quakers to a record of 28-9 over four seasons from 1956 until 1959. The "Pride of Salem"

The "Pride of Salem" high school marching band is a moderately sized band of freshman- through senior-level students.Every other year, the group is invited to Disney World or New York City to march in various parades. The band is directed by Mr. Michael Carden.
