Karaikal Carnival

Karaikal Carnival is a cultural festival organised by the Tourism Department, during the Pongal Festival in Karaikal, one of the four parts of Union Territory of Puducherry (Fomerly Pondicherry), to promote tourism in the district.

This year the Carnival was planned in a grand manner and at a larger scale. The competitive ingredients this year packed with lot of cultural and sports events like Marathon, Cycle Race, Bullock cart Race, etc., for students and the public.

Entertainment included the cinematic attractions like folk music by Paravai Muniyamma, an Orchestra by the famous Lakshman Sruthi and a theatre by humour scriptist Crazy Mohan.

For the first time ever, the people of the District are experiencing an airshow performed by the personnel of Indian Air Force, where the people of IAF parachuted out of a helicopter from a height of 3000 feet.

A flotilla has been constructed in Arasalar at Beach Road where one can dine in midst the water.

The District Collector, Mr. Sudhir Kumar, I.A.S., is conducting the fête with the Prime functioning of Tourism Department and coordination of all other Departments to say Education, Public Works, etc.

A song was composed by Mr. Natarajan, son of 'Kalaikavalar' Karai Subbaiyah and was played for audience at the valedictory function. The song can be downloaded [http://audio.isg.si/audiox/?q=node/8959 here] .
