Kumily is a town in the
Cardamom Hills nearThekkady and thePeriyar Tiger Reserve , in theIdukki District ofKerala State in SouthIndia . It is a major tourist destination and aspices trading center. M.S Vasu is the President of the Kumily Gram Panchayat. He heads a council of 19 elected members. He is a recipient of Nirmal Gram Puraskar, a prestigious award instituted by the Government of India. He received the award from the President of India for achieving commendable work in the area of sanitation and hygiene. He belongs to CPI(M). He constituted a vigilance council for women and children it is popularly known as "Jagratha Samithi". He could mobilize local resource for local development and created a model for resource mobilization . With Thekkady nearby ,makes Kumily a major tourist attraction.Thekkady lake and the periyar tiger reserve are the two probable tourist destination.
