William Chillenden, also known as Adam of Chillenden, was a monk at Christ Church Priory, Canterbury, and treasurer of that priory in 1264 when he was elected prior of Christ Church. He was elected to be Archbishop of Canterbury in England on September 9 1270. King Edward I of England, however, had wanted his Chancellor Robert Burnell elected.Prestwich "Edward I" p. 73] William's election, was set aside by the pope in the summer of 1272, and never he received his pallium.Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 233]

He died on September 13 1274.
