The tree should not be confused with "U. suberosa (: minor?) elegantissima" Hort. listed by Kirchner [http://asaweb.huh.harvard.edu:8080/databases/botanists?id=102729] , in Kirchner & Petzold [http://asaweb.huh.harvard.edu:8080/databases/botanists?id=102728] "Arb. Muscav." 556, 1864, as a synonym for "U. × viminalis" 'Variegata' (: Marginata).

Pests and diseases

"Ulmus" × "elegantissima" is susceptible to Dutch elm disease.

Cultivation

Mature trees are possibly extinct beyond Brighton in the UK. Melville found several at Foscot Copse, Didcot, and at Didcot Power Station in 1980 and 1976 resp. The tree is not known to have been introduced to North America or Australasia.
