bobtail squid . Its natural range covers theAtlantic Ocean ,Mediterranean Sea , and southwesternIndian Ocean . It is distributed from theGulf of St Lawrence to theStraits of Florida in the western Atlantic and in theBay of Biscay in the eastern Atlantic. In the Mediterranean Sea, it is specifically found in the northern and southernTyrrhenian Sea ,Ligurian Sea , and offGorgona Island . "S. leucoptera" has also been recorded from theBenguela Current offNamibia . There exist unverified records of specimens off easternTasmania .Reid, A. & P. Jereb 2005. Family Sepiolidae. "In:" P.
