Ipplepen

Ipplepen is a small village located within the county of Devon in south-west England. It has approximately 2000 residents and it is situated about 4 miles to the west of the market town of Newton Abbot. Ipplepen is also located just 6 miles from the southern edge of Dartmoor and about 7 miles to the north-west of Torquay. Other nearby villages include Torbryan, Broadhempston and Abbotskerswell.

Ipplepen has two public houses ('The Wellington' and 'The Plough Inn') and each is situated close to the heart of the village and beside the main road. There is also a primary school, park, bowling club, village hall, post office, general store, 2 churches and a medical centre. Until recently, the village also had a library but this was closed during 2008.

The population of Ipplepen during 1801 and 1901 was 821 and 813 respectively. The average age of the residents is 42 years and 68.9% of these individuals enjoy 'good health'.

Perhaps the most notable previous residents of Ipplepen were the journalists Sir Alfred Langler and Bertram Fletcher Robinson. The latter man acted as 'assistant plot producer' to Arthur Conan Doyle over The Hound of the Baskervilles.
