Alafranga and alaturca

Two native concepts known as alaturca and alafranga, which point to the sense of distinction between the Eastern (rather than Turkish in ethnic terms) and Western culture in the Balkans. This distinction, applicable to various cultural features and aspects of everyday life, encompasses the opposition between "old" (old- fashioned) and "new" (modern), as well.
