Lotharingian woman celebrated as asaint in theRoman Catholic Church . She is especially venerated inTemse ,Ghent ,Munsterbilzen and other parts ofFlanders . Many miracles, such as crossing a lake on a giantsturgeon , were attributed to her.Her "vita" is sometimes interpreted to be connected to
Charlemagne orCharles Martel . Her biography says that a prince called Charles would have sought a marriage from her. According to the story, she refused and prostrated herself at a church altar. When he tried to move her by force, he broke her arm, but was unable to carry her off. He fell ill because of his actions, but she forgave him and healed him in one of her miracles.The virgin Amalberga of Temse is not to be confused with
