"LSM(R)-507" was laid down
31 March 1945 by theBrown Shipbuilding Company inHouston, Texas and launched on28 April 1945 . She was commissioned by theUnited States Navy on22 June 1945 , with Lieutenant Alvin G. Walser in command.Departing Houston
27 June , "LSM(R)-507" steamed viaGalveston, Texas toCharleston, South Carolina , where she arrived7 July . From 28 to30 July she sailed toLittle Creek, Virginia , for training inChesapeake Bay and along theVirginia coast. Assigned toLSMR Squadron 4 , she departed Little Creek4 October for theGreat Lakes . She touched at Halifax,Quebec , andMontreal and arrived atRochester, New York ,16 October . During the next 3 weeks she sailed toDetroit andChicago before returning to Rochester1 November , and then to Little Creek17 November .During the next 2 months "LSM(R)-507" continued operations out of Little Creek. She departed
29 January 1946 , for operations offSan Juan, Puerto Rico , and later out of Guantanamo Bay. She returned to Little Creek24 March .Following duty out of
Norfolk, Virginia andBaltimore, Maryland , "LSM(R)-507" departed Little Creek for theWest Coast of the United States 18 October , arrivingSan Diego, California on20 November . Assigned toLSMR Squadron 3 , she operated out of San Diego; decommissioned there5 February 1947 and entered thePacific Reserve Fleet . While berthed at San Diego, she was named "Greenbrier River" on1 October 1955 , after theGreenbrier River (atributary of the New River). Her name was struck from theNaval Vessel Register on 1 October1958 .References
