MYX Hit Chart

MYX Hit Chart is a text vote chart show that airs on MYX every Sunday evenings. It is currently hosted by MYX VJ Iya.

The chart is computed by the total number of votes via SMS and email messages.

Numerous artists have reaped success from the chart, due to it being based on text votes. In the recent year or so, tables have turned on the once dominant foreign entries as local acts took number one after number one. American singer Mandy Moore became the very first one to win "Song of the Year" of 2002 for her hit single "Cry". Also her song "Only Hope" was #2 for 2002. Taiwanese boy band F4 became the #1 artist and Song of the Year #1 of 2003 for their song "Can't Lose You" while "Broken Vow" by Lara Fabian was #2 (Note: Taiwanese Soap Opera "Meteor Garden" starring the F4 members and the theme song sang by Lara Fabian, was very popular in Philippines and was therefore the reason for these two songs to reach the top spots on the chart). Foreign artist such as A1, Westlife, Aaron Carter, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Blue, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez, and many more had made some early successes on the countdown. "Jealous" by Nina was the very first OPM song to reach #1 on MYX Hit Chart. "Stay" by Carol Banawa was the very first OPM artist/song to enter the chart peaking at #4.

Local artists

1. Sponge Cola. Five out of the band's six videos have reached #1 on the chart. "KLSP", the first single off their major-label debut, "Palabas", debuted in early 2005, surging up to #2. "Gemini" followed soon after, halting the eight-week winning streak of Hale's "The Day You Said Goodnight" and going to keep two weeks on top. "Una" took two non-consecutive weeks on top as it frequently switched with, coincidentally, another Hale song, "Kung Wala Ka". "Jeepney" took the top for two weeks in mid-2006, but it wasn't until their second effort, "Transit", came out that Sponge Cola maxxed out their potential on the chart. "Bitiw", its first single, spent 6 non-consecutive weeks on top of the chart and was #2 in the Year-End Countdown. Their contribution to the Kami nAPO Muna Tribute to the Apo Hiking Society, "Nakapagtataka", spent 3 weeks on top. Their latest single, "Tuliro" also peaked at #1 for 2 weeks and is currently charting.

2. Hale. Hailed as the artist of 2005, at least for OPM, Hale contributed 3 entries to the 2005 Year-Ender: "Kung Wala Ka" at #17, "Kahit Pa" at #7 and the #1 song for 2005, "The Day You Said Goodnight". "Broken Sonnet", their debut single, peaked at #7. "The Day You Said Goodnight" and "Kahit Pa" both broke records with 8 weeks each at the #1 spot, and "Kung Wala Ka" spent 4 non-consecutive weeks at #1. "Toll Gate" peaked at #2, and "Blue Sky" at #4. "Waltz", from their second album, Twilight, ended their #1 drought after it spent 3 weeks on top and made it to the 2006 Year-Ender. "Hide And Seek", their second single from Twilight, has peaked at #4. Their latest single, "Shooting Star" has reached #1 and is currently charting.

3. Cueshe. In 2005, Cueshe's debut single, "Stay" didn't reach #1 because of Hale's "The Day You Said Goodnight", but it spent over 8 weeks in the top 5. "Sorry" reached #3, but "Ulan" scored the Cebuano band its first chart-topper, peaking at #1 for 4 weeks and reaching the 2006 Year-Ender. "Can't Let You Go" peaked at #6, while their singles from their second effort, "Back To Me", didn't do as well, the title track peaking at #4, while "Borrowed Time" reaching #20, only. Cueshe realeased a repackaged version of their second album, Back To Me. The first single, "Walang Yaman (Mas Higit Pa Sa'yo)" failed to chart but was used as the theme song of GMA's Fantasy Show, Asian Treasures. The band is hoping to get better chart results from their second single of the repackaged version of Back To Me. Their 2nd single from the repackaged album was "Bakit". "Bakit" only reached #6.

4. Kamikazee. Their breakthrough hit "Narda" debuted at #13 in March 4,2006 and quickly rose to #1, where it remained in that spot for 3 weeks. This single gave the band its first ever nationwide success, receiving heavy airplay throughout the country. However, the song quickly fell out of the top 10 but was replaced by another of the band's successful hit, "Martyr Nyebera" which reached #1 directly on its second week. "Martyr Nyebera" suffered the same fate as "Narda", quickly falling out of the chart. The band still continued their #1 streak with the release of "DoBidoo" which stayed at #1 for 3 weeks. Their current hit "Ambisyoso" only peaked at #5. This marked the stop of their #1 streak.

5. Callalily. Nominated for Favorite New Artist in the 2007 Myx Music Awards, Callalily broke into the music scene with "Stars" which spent two weeks at #1. Their second single "Take My Hand" only made it to #3. They proved they still had more to give with "Magbalik" which spent 7 consecutive weeks at #1.They have another hit, "Pasan" (OST of Lineage II), which spending 3 non-consecutive weeks at #1 and still charting.

6. 6cyclemind. Being in the music scene since 2000, it has only been recently that 6cyclemind has been topping the charts. Their 3rd album "Home" is where their dominance began. "Prinsesa" spent 2 non-consecutive weeks at #1, closely competing with the My Chemical Romance song "Famous Last Words". "Upside Down" already hit #1 and is still charting.

Foreign artists

1. Westlife. Making it to the list of foreign singers who gained popularity because of MYX was Westlife, as "Your Choice and Your Music" focused on international pop artists on their early days [the boy band era] to captivate the hearts of the Filipino audience. This Irish Fab Quintet turned Quartet is considered to be one of the pioneers and an evidence to the overwhelming success of the music channel today and to date. With their very passionate, loyal, and solid fanbase in the Philippines (including their charismatic smile, angelic voice, right choice of "love" songs and great personality and character), this crooners have reached the utmost phenomena that they truly wanted and deserve. Since the VID-OK days, the songs like "When You're Looking Like That" entered their charts unprecedentedly. As the VID-OK evolved into MYX and opened at the year 2002, Westlife was carried also to the reformation. MYX Hit Chart's history was filled with voted chart-topping and long-lasting Westlife songs starting with the tracks from the group's 3rd album "World Of Our Own", "Bop Bop Baby" which peaked at #1 and #13 at 2002 Year-End Chart together with "World Of Our Own" at #3 (which was surprisingly not voted in any of their charts but entered the year-end chart because of the insisting demand of fans at that time); and "Evergreen" (a MYXclusive) [#2] . From their 4th effort, "Unbreakable: Greatest Hits Volume I": "Unbreakable" [#1] ; "Tonight" [#1] ; "Miss You Nights" [#2] . Next is the 5th album, "Turn Around", "Hey Whatever" [#3] ; "Mandy" [#1; #10 - 2004 Year-End Chart] ; "Obvious" [#1] . Then, "Allow Us To Be Frank", as their 6th album: "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" [#1] ; "Smile" [#2] . Lastly, their 7th album "Face To Face", "You Raise Me Up" [#4] ; "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" (with Diana Ross) [#13] . Face To Face's 3rd single "Amazing" failed to enter the charts with the 1st song from their 8th album "The Love Album", "The Rose". Their 9th album "Back Home" released three music videos. "Home", a cover by Michael Buble peaked at #12. "Something Right" (peaked at #10 in MYX INternational Top 20) and "Us Against The World" didn't enter yet the countdown.

2. Britney Spears. Britney Spears is considered as the most successful artist in this chart. In 2000, she debuted at #9 with Oops!... I Did It Again, which was quite surprising for an artist to enter in that position for the first time. Her first single in the chart peaked at #1 for nine weeks. In total, she has ten #1 singles and six top 5 singles. See Exceptional Records section for all of Britney's #1 singles and top 5 singles in the MYX Hit Chart.

3. The Pussycat Dolls. "Don't Cha" featuring Busta Rhymes only peaked at #13, but it spent ten weeks in the chart. "Stickwitu" followed, reaching #5, but "Beep" featuring will.i.am brought the foreign entry drought at the #1 spot to an end in early 2006, peaking at #1 for two weeks. "Buttons" featuring Snoop Dogg peaked at #3 but quickly fell. "I Don't Need A Man" took to #7, while "Wait A Minute" peaked at #8.

4. My Chemical Romance. The band entered the chart in late 2005 at #15 with "Helena" but quickly rose to #4 on the chart, staying so long that it had to be replaced with "The Ghost of You", their next single, to fall off the chart. "The Ghost of You" peaked at #9 only. "Welcome To The Black Parade" entered at #17 in late 2006, and soon soared straight to #1 after hanging around 5 and 6 for about 4 weeks. "Famous Last Words", the 2nd single from "The Black Parade", has reached #1 for 2 non-consecutive weeks. Their single, "I Don't Love You" peaked at #1 on its second week but also stayed so long on ranks 2-6 and their latest single "Teenagers" peaked #1 on its 2nd week and currently charting.

5. Jesse McCartney. Jesse entered the chart in late 2004 at #16 with "Beautiful Soul" but quickly rose to the top 10 and was able to reach #1 for a week. It took "Beautiful Soul" two months to reach #1 but throughout 2005 until the late-2006, McCartney became silent in the chart. Non of his new singles were able to chart. This ended in late-2006 when he released his new album, Right Where You Want Me. It's title track peaked at #10 while the 2nd single, "Just So You Know" peaked at #3 in January 2007.
