The [http://biocyc.org/ BioCyc] database collection describesgenome and pathway information for hundreds of organisms.
Two databases within BioCyc are highly curated, meaning theyhave received extensive manual updating with informationfrom the scientific literature. Those databases are EcoCycand MetaCyc.
The remaining BioCyc databases were generated computationallyto predict what metabolic pathways are present in these organisms.In some cases, the databases were refined manually after theirgeneration.
BioCyc databases rely on a software system called [http://brg.ai.sri.com/ptools/ Pathway Tools] for theirinitial generation, subsequent updating, and for queryingtheir content. The databases can also be installed locally.
All BioCyc databases share the same database schema, whichfacilitates comparisons across the databases.
