"for schools of the same name"
South High School was a public high school in Springfield, Ohio. It was one of two high schools in the Springfield City Schools district, the other school being North High School.
The school's design was based on the United States Capitol building. When the school was built around 1911, it was the sole high school in Springfield, and was known as "Springfield High School". North High School was built in the 1960s due to the rising population of the city, and the old high school was renamed South.
The mascot is the Wildcat. The school colors are Gold and Navy Blue.
Within the school there are many academic programs offered such as International Baccalaureate program which is a two year program that is offered to only juniors and seniors. Some of the other academics offered within the school are advanced courses, Advanced Placement Program and Post Secondary through Clark State community college.
There is a planned merger between North High School and South High School. A new high school that will combine the two schools is being constructed on land owned by Springfield City Schools that North High School resides on currently. This merger is planned to take place in the 2008-2009 school year.
