- Johnnie Heving
John Aloysius Heving (
April 29 ,1896 -December 24 ,1968 ) was acatcher who played inMajor League Baseball between 1920 and 1932. Heving batted and threw right handed. He was born inCovington, Kentucky . His younger brother, Joe, was a major leaguepitcher from 1930-45. A non-power hitting backup catcher, Heving reached the majors in 1920 with the St. Louis Browns, spending one year with them before moving to theBoston Red Sox (1924-25, 1928-30) and Philadelphia Athletics (1931-32). His most productive season came in 1929 with Boston, when he posted a career-high .319batting average in 76games played .In an eight-season career, Heving was a .265 hitter (261-for-985) with one
home run and 90 RBI in 399 games.Heving died in
Salisbury, North Carolina , at the age of 72.ee also
