Samuel A. Fryer Yavneh Hebrew Academy, also known as Yeshivat Yavneh, Yavneh Hebrew Academy, Yavneh, or YHA is a private Orthodox Jewish Elementary and Middle School in Los Angeles, California. Yavneh is dedicated to providing the finest dual education available. The staff strives to instill a deep love of the Jewish heritage and inculcate a strong understanding of Torah-true values and Middot.

History

Curriculum

Yavneh's Dual Curriculum consists of Judaic Studies and General Studies. The Middle School boys begin their day with Judaic Studies and end it with General Studies, whereas the Middle School girls begin with General Studies and end with Judaic Studies. (The Elementary School girls begin their day with Judaic Studies and end it with General Studies, whereas the Elemenatary School boys begin with General Studies and end with Judaic Studies.) As a result of the dual curriculum, Pre-1A through third grade students are dismissed at 3:30 pm, and for grades 4th through 8th dismissal is at 4:30 pm. (There is Judaic Studies Sunday School for boys, which includes prayers followed by a Parsha Test. Sunday School runs from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

"Yeshivat Yavneh's Judaic Studies program is among the best offered anywhere in the United States", stated a Yavneh alumna of 1998. There is a Rebbe for each boys class, and a Morah for each girls class. Children are taught to read and speak modern Hebrew. Their total studies include Chumash, Prophets, Halacha, Mishna and Gemarah, Jewish values, and Middot. Holidays and traditions are emphasized, providing a solid preparation for community life.

Yeshivat Yavneh's General Studies program conforms to the highest academic standards, far exceeding requirements of California State Law. Courses include Language Arts, reading and comprehension skills, writing instruction and honors composition. They teach advanced mathematics, including critical thinking and thinking strategies, which have produced competition award winners. Rich and varied Social Studies curricula, comprehensive Science and Technology instruction, Art, Library and Computer Skills, form the backbone of this program.

Early Childhood

Yavneh's Early Childhood enjoys more than 20,000 square feet of spacious state-of-the-art classrooms to accommodate an excellent program, which spans from "Mommy and Me" through Pre-1A. Each child receives exposure to a Torah-true way of life. The staff teaches the children Midot Tovot, Mitzvot, Parsha, Jewish holidays, Hebrew, Reading Readiness, Math, Socialization Skills where each child can develop and be prepared for education. "The success rate for kids striving at Yavneh is very high," stated a Yavneh Alumnus of 2004. The children in the program range in age from 1 to 6 years old.
