This article is about a transmission service. For information on tax software, see Canadian Tax Preparation Software for Personal Use.
NETFILE is a transmission service available from February through September each year that allows eligible Canadians to submit their tax return to the Canadian government using the Internet. To file using this method, you must first prepare a tax return using a Canada Revenue Agency approved commercial tax preparation software package or Web application. The software or Web application produces a .tax file, which must then be uploaded to the CRA independently to constitute a tax filing. Netfile was introduced in 2001.[1]
