First Sino-Japanese War from1894-09-27 to1895-05-14 under the command of GeneralOyama Iwao .It was revived for the
Russo-Japanese War from1904-03-06 to1906-01-02 under the command of GeneralOku Yasukata . It fought in most of the major campaigns of the war, including theBattle of Nanshan ,Battle of Te-li-Ssu ,Battle of Tashihchiao ,Battle of Shaho ,Battle of Liaoyang ,Battle of Sandepu , andBattle of Mukden .The Japanese 2nd Army was raised again on
23 August 1937 and placed under the command of theJapanese Northern China Area Army as reinforcement to Japanese forces in China following theMarco Polo Bridge Incident . The 2nd Army participated in the North China Incident,Tianjin–Pukou Railway Operation ,Battle of Xuzhou andBattle of Taierzhuang before being demobilized on15 December 1938 .The fourth and final incarnation of the Japanese 2nd Army was on
4 July 1942 , when it was revived under the command of theJapanese First Area Army inManchukuo . It was transferred to theJapanese Second Area Army on30 October 1943 and commenced training for the projected Japanese invasion ofAustralia . Towards the closing stages of the war, on30 June 1945 , it was transferred to theSouthern Expeditionary Army Group and was based in theCelebes at the end ofWorld War II List of Commanders
