History

The IJA was sent to New Guinea in 1944. [http://www.nbr.org/foraui/message.aspx?LID=5&MID=32070] About 13,000 Japanese soldiers died on the island, where the 35th soon found itself trapped. [ [http://www.history.army.mil/brochures/new-guinea/ng.htm New Guinea ] ] It surrendered near the wars end.
